Surgery of Blood Vessels

Whether a quick in-office procedure to remove varicose veins, or a more technical surgery for arterial blockage, Onslow Surgical Clinic provides the services our patients need to achieve overall vein and blood vessel health.

Poor circulation in the legs is a common sign of atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Blockages can also be the result of less common causes including aneurysms, the compression of arteries and dissections or internal tears extending along the length of the artery.

To alleviate blockages our skilled surgeons have the experience to employ procedures ranging from balloon angioplasty to bypass surgery, depending on severity.

Patients undergoing long-term intravenous surgery, blood transfusions, bone marrow transplants or treatments that may cause damage to veins are often fitted for an Implanted Venous Access Port (IVAP). An IVAP is a small metal or plastic container surgically implanted into the upper chest, where it delivers medications or infusions into blood vessels via a connecting catheter.

To keep the IVAP from getting blocked and to help prevent medicines form mixing, it must be regularly flushed. Flushing is performed between treatments or port use, by pushing a small amount of liquid into the port and catheter with a syringe.

Varicose veins are the blue or purplish enlarged veins you typically see bulging out of one’s leg. Any vein in your body may become varicose; however, the condition exists most often in the legs and feet. Varicose veins occur in the legs and lower extremities because standing and walking increases the pressure in the veins in the lower half of your body.

Services provided by Onslow Surgical Clinic to remove varicose veins include sclerotherapy, laser procedures and vein stripping. Treatments are typically quick and minimally invasive.
